Basil Aioli
w/ a fun secret ingredient
I know I say this a lot but this is my dream sauce.
Ingredients
1 egg
1/2 cup avocado oil (or other neutral oil)
1/2 cup olive oil
1 cup basil leaves
1 small garlic clove (or 1 tsp of garlic powder)
1 tsp dijon mustard
1 tbsp peperoncini juice (can replace with lemon juice)
1 tbsp peperoncini peppers (optional if you don’t have them)
1 tsp honey
salt + pepper
Instructions
**Note: I used an immersion blender, a food processor also works with these instructions. Whisking will not work because the basil, garlic, and peperoncini need to be blended.
Roughly chop the basil and garlic clove.
Crack the egg into wherever you’ll be blending things. Then add in the basil, garlic, and all other ingredients except for the oils.
Blend those ingredients together until there are no more large pieces.
Slowly add in the oil while still blending. It will thicken up and have a similar texture to mayo but a bit thinner. Pour into a jar, bottle, or deli container to store in the fridge. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before using - this gives the flavors time to mix and the aioli will thicken.
Perfect for BLTs!!!
BLT w/ Basil Aioli
A big motivation for learning to love tomatoes was wanting to eat a BLT. Specifically, one with big beautiful heirloom slices, oozing with basil aioli. And oh my, it was glorious. also very messy.
