Compound Butter
make your week a little more chic
Make your week instantly more chic with a simple compound butter! You can store it in a butter bell on your counter (for room temp spreadable bliss) or keep it in the fridge for even longer (and some peace of mind if counter butter worries you).
Perfect for elevating toast, eggs, butter noods, and a nice ny strip.
Best part? Once the butter is softened, it only takes 5 minutes and 5 ingredients.
Ingredients
8 tablespoons of butter (1 stick), room temp
1 tablespoon diced chives
1 tsp chile flakes
2 tsp onion/ garlic seasoned salt
1 tsp lemon zest
Instructions
Cut your butter into tablespoon sized chunks and add to a bowl. Let the butter come to room temp so that its spreadable. This may take up to an hour.
If you’re in a hurry or your butter isn’t getting to a spreadable point, microwave for 5 seconds then check the texture and microwave for another 5 seconds as needed. You don’t want the butter to melt!
Add chives, chile flakes, garlic/ onion salt, and lemon zest into the butter and fold it in until combined.
Use right away or store for later usage.
Notes
Seasoned Salt: Trader Joe’s Onion Salt would work great here! My favorite is a seasoned salt from Penzey’s Spices called “shallot pepper seasoning” but that’s trickier to come by.
Storage: You can use a butter bell for countertop storage - this is great for keeping it at room temp and spreadable. For fridge storage you can spoon the butter into the center of a sheet of plastic wrap, then roll the plastic wrap over and press/ roll the butter into a log shape.
