Anna’s Daily Breakfast Sammy

idk this isn’t really a recipe but a lot of people ask me about it so HERE YOU GO!!

*note: in this photo you can see the jalapeños are with the lettuce instead of the cheese, this was before I realized that putting them with the cheese was the superior method

You’ll need:

  • bread: i prefer either an English muffin or one of the fancy loaf breads

  • a slice of American cheese

  • thinly sliced jalapeño

  • some sort of sausage: I like using turkey or chicken sausage patties or links

  • lettuce (optional): either arugula or spinach or a crispy green lettuce. No kale ew.

  • Ketchup: I use a fancy one from Stonewall Kitchen that my friend Colette gave me

  • an egg duh

  • butter

Instructions:

  1. butter both sides of your bread. Add to a large skillet over medium heat. If you have room also add the sausage to the skillet. Cook until both sides of the bread and sausage are golden. Remove.

  2. Add the American cheese to one piece of bread, this is your bottom piece. Then place the jalapeño slices on top of the cheese. Then put the sausage on top of the jalapenos

  3. Turn the heat for your skillet to low. Add a little bit of butter and crack your egg into it. Once the bottom has set, use a knife or spatula or fork or something to break the yolk and spread it so you’ll have some in every bite. Then season with salt, pepper, and maybe red pepper flakes. Flip the egg and turn off the heat. Let it sit for about 20 seconds then remove.

  4. Add the egg on top of the sausage.

  5. Spread ketchup on the top piece of bread. Add the lettuce on top of the egg and then add the top piece of bread.

  6. Eat up!
